Check Out Science Students In Action!
8th grade science students have been practicing working through the engineering design process by building Rube Goldberg Machines. These machines are usually a complex, over-engineered way of doing a very simple task. For this particular challenge, students had to start their machines with a rolling tennis ball and end by knocking a golf ball into a cup. They used scientific concepts studied last year, such as Newton's Laws of motion, and potential and kinetic energy to enhance their machines. Overall students had lots of opportunities to design, test and redesign various elements of their projects while working within specific constraints.
