Chicas Youth Leadership & Development Program for girls 

A proactive approach to empower Latina girls to develop leadership potential, build a strong cultural identity, adopt a healthy lifestyle and achieve academic success.

 

Battle of the Books (OBOB)

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a trivia-style reading competition where students grades 3 to 12 compete against one another by answering a series of questions based upon a list of books they are given at the beginning of the year.  Teams of four students read a total of 16 books (about four per student).  During the weekly sessions NAMS students will help each other by sharing different reading and comprehension strategies, reading together and in groups in preparation for the regional and state competition

 

Culinary Club  (No longer accepting registrations)

Cooking club is an easy, delicious and practical way to learn all about foods, while cooking in a relaxed, friendly environment. Come and go on a delicious journey of crafting, tasting, and exploring foods of the world.

 

Soccer Club

It will consist of practicing soccer skills and playing games to develop individual and team soccer excellence and it is open to all levels of skills or experience.

 

Board Games Club

In this Club you will use board games to enhance Language & Communication skills, Self Regulation skills, and Social thinking skills.

Chess Club (Chess for Success)

Fun club to learn Chess and to play it with friends and others, Get your thinking skills and strategies going.  Using chess as a tool for building community, connection and confidence.   

Possible team tournaments will be held during the second semester.  

 

Dungeons & Dragons Club (No longer accepting registrations)

In this club students will learn how to increase peer connections, develop social-emotional skills through gameplay, and increase AVID WICOR skills also through gameplay.

 

Fitness Club

Students will learn the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle. Students of all fitness levels will learn to set realistic goals, track individual progress, and actively participate in a variety of workouts based on individual student interests.  Students will also learn about health, wellness, and nutritional information. 

 

Ballet Folklorico (Traditional Mexican dances)

Students enrolled in Bailes Folkloricos will develop an awareness and appreciation of Mexican Folkloric dances as a performing art.

Throughout this season of 2023-2024 each student will develop, refine and demonstrate a thorough historical and physical understanding of various regional dance styles and traditions of Mexico. All students enrolled in this activity will be expected to participate and showcase a dance at the end of the season.  No previous experience needed, all levels welcome!

 

Unified LEGO Club (No longer accepting registrations)

Promoting Inclusion and Friendship…LEGO club encourages students with and without intellectual disabilities to come together to have  fun!   Creativity, problem solving, and teamwork are some of the skills that "playing" with LEGOS can teach. All LEGO's will be provided! 

 

NAMS Art Club

The NAMS Art Club is for anyone who…

  • Wants a space to try a new hobby or skill in art
  • Enjoys art and wants to grow in their skills
  • Wants a fun, relaxed atmosphere to get creative with their friends! 
  • Each week will feature a different art medium to experiment with - from painting, to watercolor, to collage, and more. There will also be opportunities for “free studio”, in which students will be able to choose what art style/medium they want to explore. This is a relaxed environment that is low-stakes - everyone is welcome, regardless of ability or skill level! Come get creative! 
 

Football 101 Club

Have you thought about playing American Football but don't have the confidence to try it out?  You don't have to look any more, we have a great opportunity here at NAMS!

This is an activity for boys and girls of all levels of experience and athleticism.  This club will consist of learning basic football terminology and skills development through non contact activities. 

There will also be a focus on physical fitness such as; endurance, agility, and strength.  Let's have fun learning all about Football!  Mr. Davis

 

MEChA Leadership Club)

Mecha is the Spanish word for "fuse". The motto of M.E.Ch.A. is 'La Unión Hace La Fuerza' (Unity makes strength). Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (M.E.Ch.A.) is a student-led organization that promotes higher education, cultural awareness, community involvement, and leadership development.

 

Werewolf Club

Strategy / Community Building / Role Playing. 

A greater sense of belonging within the school while developing positive relationships outside of the classroom.

This is a social deduction-role based game where players try to find the bad guys that keep reducing the village population.  Some players are granted additional powers such as HEALING or SEEING.  The object to find all of the bad guys among the villagers, or in the case of the bad guys, deplete the population.  It is a game of deception, deduction and a bit of intuition.

 

Study Hall (No registration required)

Study Skills will be available to all students  Monday through Thursday. Supports include having FGSD staff available to answer questions that students may have for class or school in general.  

This will also offer a space for students that need extra time and/or support on their classwork/homework and help troubleshoot communication with teachers if needed.  

This activity does not require registration, it is open as needed but students will still follow the club schedule and remain in Study Hall until 4:20 unless instructed otherwise by parent(s)/guardian(s). 

 

Academic Reset

The NAMS academic reset provides students who may be experiencing difficulties arriving on time to class and missing instruction time, with a second chance to succeed in their studies and understand the importance of being in class and on time.
